Christobel Hill Smith was an integral part of the personality around the Yalumba household and wineworks for over sixty years, her vitality and charm bewitched all those around her. Her eponymous wine is equally charismatic, two thirds Semillon and a third of Sauvignon Blanc, fashioned into a well structured Barossa white supported by exquisite mineral slateyness. The aromaticnes and pungency of Sauvignon Blanc adorn the beautiful fresh flavours and lithe natural acidity.

Damien Tscharke, proprietor, grower and winemaker is a sixth generation vigneron and Roseworthy baccalaureate who graduated with honours in viticulture. Girl Talk Savagnin is vinified from Albarino, an Iberian varietal that's native to the cool, windswept corner of northwest Portugal and Spain. Thick skinned, naturally acidic and an early ripening aromatic style, Damien Tscharke was convinced it would perform well at in the soils of Marananga. Fashioned with the savoury, food friendly dry whites of southern France in mind, Woodcutter Semillon is the ideal tonic after a long day in the vineyard. On a highland trail, the place to stop and rest when weary is known as a Bothie. Torbreck have been tinkering away at a sweet wine since 2001, the idea was always to construct something that's just a little bit different. This sweeter style of Frontignac exhibits lifted fruit aromatics, lifted perfumes of rosewater and honeydew melon, geraniums and lime, very characteristic of it's Barossa provenance. Bothie is a very versatile wine that can be enjoyed either at the start of a meal or nicely chilled at the end, alongside fresh fruits and cheese, ice creams or sorbet.

Inspired by the lusciously rich, mineral scented dry whites of La Vallée Rhône, Torbreck have assembled the essential cépage of Marsanne, Viognier and Roussanne, sourced entirely from the distinguished Descendant Vineyard at Roennfeldt Road in Marananga. Five rows each of superior vine, set aside every year for the construct of full bodied whites to rival the classics of the old world. A seamless experience in silken texture, to accompany anything seafood, west coast marron or moreton bay bug, brewed mussels or deftly prepared abalone.

Torbreck founder Dave Powell acquired prime viticultural land at Marananga in 1994, with the express purpose of establishing blocks of white Rhône varietals. The precious plantings on Descendant Vineyard are now fully mature, Roussanne in particular lends itself to the vinification of an artisanal small batch effort, crafted in the minimalist old world way. Its exceptional purity of fruit is fully reliant on determining the ideal time of harvest within the narrow window of perfect ripeness. Each individual row of vines are assessed daily in the lead up to picking.

Marsanne was at the top of list when Dave Powell established his first vineyard at Marananga in 1994. He stylized his designs on the great Crus of Hermitage Blanc, mouthfilling wines of savouryness, elegance and beguiling balance. Parcels of Marsanne are picked by hand throughout the early hours of morning, pressed into the previous year's French oak Viognier barriques and treated to a wild indigenous yeast ferment on heavy gross lees, infusing the palate with distinctive pastoral richness. An amenable match to crackling pork and roast white meats.

A refreshingly unoaked assembly of Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc, sourced from the Strathbogie Ranges and Barooga in Victoria, with further parcels from the Barossa Valley. An even ripening produces excellent fruit intensity, while retaining excellent balanced natural acidity. Passionate about the obscure and about fashioning a spectrum of styles, T'Gallant is driven by an extraordinary commitment to quality. The very best European winemaking techniques and philosophies have been applied in the vinification and it shows in the glass.

The dedicated vignerons at Seppeltsfield are very fond of a few choice parcels which grow an intensely flavoured Moscato. This is the vineyard block they call upon to fashion a very favourite drink, the elixir that revitalizes and refreshes at the end of a hard day's work. Fully ripe grapes, bursting with a concentration of juicy flavours are vinified to retain a toothsome natural sweetness. The Schild Estate vineyards are spread out over several unique mesoclimes and soils around Lyndoch and across the southern districts of Barossa Valley. Ed Schild purchased Tweedies Gully vineyard in 1977, noting that the prime location with its westerly aspect, high altitude and sandy loam soils, would be perfect for growing extra fine Riesling. Schild encapsulates the generous style that is purely Barossa. Good acidity with lean, clean characteristics, exhibiting the tight structure and profound expression of fruit which have brought Schild so much renown.

The Schild family have been growing Frontignac Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains for over sixty years, originally sourced by the nation's most eminent labels for bottling as rich fortified wines. The deliciously refreshing grape has found a new calling, as a pretty, delicate style of aromaticness and moreishness. Conspicuous for her arrestingly ripe, juicy fruit flavours, a daintily perfumed accord, bursting with ripe grape characters over a teasingly petulant palate and sweetly satiating finish.

In a return to an early style of Barossa white, Frontignac holds an enviable reputation for being generously flavoured, one of the most accessible, easy drinking varietals. The Frontignac grape shares a long history with Barossa Valley, it was one of the earliest plantings, as Lutheran settlers were very found of its generously sweet palate. Schild exhibits a forwardness of tropical fruit, balanced by tight brace of light citrus and refreshing acid on the finish. Immediately enjoyable whilst young and fresh, with a complexity that rewards as the wine evolves.

A selection of the finest Chardonnay from Schild's extensive holdings in the Barossa, around a backbone of fruit grown to the original Three Springs Farm and a further component from the precious Schild estate property in the hundred of Moorooroo. Alma was the Schild matriarch, married to estate founder Ben Schild, she raised a family of eight children under primitive conditions while supporting her husband throughout the establishment of Schild vineyards. The original homestead at Three Springs was acquired by Ben in 1952 as a mixed farm with dairy sheep, stonefruit orchard and a small acreage of vines. Alma showed the greatest perseverance whilst encouraging her husband and nurturing a large family during some of the most impoverished times in Australian history.

Thorn-Clarke are one of Barossa's largest and most highly awarded wine growers. Their Mount Crawford Vineyard, high up in Valley Eden, holds five hectares of choice Grey Pinot vines. Fruit grown here translates into a generously proportioned wine with outstanding varietal character. Peter Lehmann named Margaret after his wife, she is also an enthusiast of Semillon and outspoken advocate of all things Barossa. Small amounts are stored and matured at Lehmann's Tanunda Cellars for the discerning wine enthusiast who appreciates the delicious, rich, full flavoured characters of bottle aged Semillon. Margaret is crafted from the very best Semillon of vintage, precious parcels from a 1923 planting owned by the Fiebiger Family at Vine Vale and a 1936 planting owned by the Scholz family at Light Pass in the heart of the Barossa.

Peter Lehmann's story with Noble Semilon goes back many years, when Andrew Wigan had the good fortune of experiencing vintage within the vineyards at Chateau d'Yquem, home to the greatest sweet white wine in the world. What he had assumed to be spoilage, was in fact Botrytis Cinerea. Traditionally, Botrytis affected wines are the most complex and longest lived of all. Pepperjack is a tribute to the rich heritage of Barossa Valley. Pepperjack's dynamic and imaginative team are masters of traditional winemaking practices. Conscious of modern styles and contemporary tastes, they have crafted a ripe, fruit driven Chardonnay, cannily treating separate components to various techniques. A vibrant peach, applejack and melon palate is brought forward into an immensely satisfying Chardonnay wine, endowed with the generous and enduring Pepperjack style.

Marble Hill was a stately old manor in the Adelaide Hills, the colonial Governor’s summer residence. Planted to a unique clone of Burgundy Chardonuet in the 1860s, the ancient vines came to the attention of the legendery David Wynn, who removed cuttings back to Mountadam, the oldest cool climate Chardonnay vines on the continent. The original stocks in Burgundy were wiped out by phylloxera and Marble Hill was destroyed by fire in the 1950s. There truly is no Chardonnay in the world like Marble Hill.

The family Wynn were enthused about the potential of a very special site to produce wines of exceptional elegance and structure. They established vines at 550 metres above sea level in 1968, a place of quartz rich soils over weathered Schist bedrock, within the loftiest aspects of Valley Eden, It remains to this day, the highest productive vineyard in South Australia. Riesling grows magnificently here, the chilly climes and challenging terrains yield harvests of the most extraordinary fruit, lemony and calico, mineral and jasmine florals, a wine of amazing persistence.
